CIVIC LANTERNS
Auburn City Hall Plaza, Auburn, Washington, 2011
Stainless and mild steel, fiber-optic flood lights
Lantern 108" x 64" x 64"
Traditional bell street lighting is amplified, scaled up, and placed on the city hall plaza. Lines of fiber-optics thread through the lantern, creating a drawing in light. Functional plaza lighting is hidden in the sculptural civic symbol. A custom stainless-steel finial and base completes the piece. The crafted civic lanterns provide both functional and atmospheric lighting.
